Statement by Governor Vilsack

Governor Tom Vilsack today made the following statement regarding the release of the DAS investigative report into Iowa Workforce Development's handling of the CIETC matter:

Advice from the Attorney General's office, long standing policy, and provisions of the Iowa code has dictated that investigations involving confidential personnel files are to remain private. My staff acting in accordance with these factors made a decision to withhold this report, however this is no ordinary circumstance and an exception needs to be made.

Therefore today I have instructed DAS to release the investigative report into Iowa Work Force Development's handling of the CIETC matter. This decision will not however affect how this Administration handles other confidential personnel matters.

The CIETC investigation is of vital importance to the people of Iowa. Iowans deserve to know what steps have been taken to preserve the integrity of state and local government and they deserve assurances that the public trust is held sacred.

I am confident that when the public sees this report they will know that DAS conducted a thorough investigation and that IWD has taken decisive corrective action.
